About

Alex Martin is a visual journalist, currently serving as the staff photojournalist at the Journal and Courier in Lafayette, Ind. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s class of 2021, Martin was a staff member for the university’s student newspaper The News Record. He served as the art director for The News Record, where in this role he oversaw not only photo and video, but also the design aspects of the newspaper. At his time of graduation, Martin also served as the sports editor. Prior to taking on these roles, he worked as a staff reporter, chief photographer and photo editor at The News Record. Through this job, he has covered a multitude of events ranging from; The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Bunbury Music Festival and the Peach Bowl.

Martin interned with The Cincinnati Enquirer as their photo intern during the spring of 2020. At The Cincinnati Enquirer, he had the privilege to grow and learn from a Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom.

In the summer of 2020, he worked as a visual journalist intern for The Post Crescent and other USA Today Network-Wisconsin papers.

Martin served as an intern for The Indianapolis Star throughout the first half of 2022. At the IndyStar, he was able to develop his skills further, and learn from the award-winning staff. He has been able to cover the NCAA College Football Playoff Final and the Indianapolis 500.

Outside of these jobs, Martin is involved in various organizations. He served as a board member of the University of Cincinnati’s Communications Board and was the Vice President of the University of Cincinnati’s Online News Association Chapter. Martin is the Midwest Region Co-Chair for the National Press Photographers Association.
